The Morpeth community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Grace “Gracie” Elizabeth Nevens, who tragically died by suicide on November 4, 2024, at just 22 years old. Known for her warmth, wit, and boundless generosity, Gracie was the kind of person who gave everything she had to others—even when she was struggling herself.
Her sister, Lucy, lovingly remembers her as “the most beautiful person inside and out,” with kind eyes and a heart that never hesitated to help. Friends say she lit up every room she entered, often putting others first no matter what she was going through behind the scenes.
Gracie wasn’t just a kind soul—she was a passionate advocate for mental health. She volunteered with Mind, a UK charity close to her heart, and her legacy now lives on through memorial fundraisers and awareness campaigns in her honor. From “22km in 22 hours” challenges to marathon runs by those closest to her, these efforts carry forward the compassion and care that defined Gracie’s life.
Her lifelong friend Kate shared touching memories of growing up with Grace—afternoons spent playing Animal Crossing, dreaming about quirky business ideas, and just being there for one another. That bond, and the laughter they shared, reflects the person Grace was: thoughtful, funny, and full of heart.
While her smile masked deep inner pain, her story is now a powerful call for change. Grace’s passing has pushed the community to speak more openly about mental health, to check in on one another, and to make sure no one feels they have to suffer alone.
Her family continues to grieve privately, but her impact is far from quiet. Grace’s life—and the love she gave so freely—serves as a reminder to listen more closely, love more deeply, and never take anyone’s presence for granted.
